Lion’s Mane Growing Instructions

Step1.  Cut one or two 1x1inch “+”  through the plastic of the bag. Cutting the bag with as little damage done as possible to the log

Step2.   Place the humidity tent over the log as indicated in the following figure. Mist the outside area of the log near  “+”  and inside of the humidity tent at least twice a day. In about 10-14 days, you should see mushroom “pins” (baby mushrooms).

Step3.    Harvest normally happens in 10-20 days after sprouting. Harvest when clear teeth (spines) have formed or they are turning to yellow.

Growing Conditions

Temperature: 54°F~70°F. Please do not keep your kit in a constant temperature environment. Lion’s mane needs 6-10° F temperature fluctuation to form growing points.

Light: Lion’s mane like weak light(200-400lx). Please do not expose your kit to direct sun light or very bright artificial light.  Normal levels of indoor light are sufficient.

Water: Spray water frequently on “+” area and the inside of the tent. When you see mushrooms, do not spray water directly on the mushrooms; spray more onto the inside of the tent, ensuring that condensation droplets are always visible. High humidity is very important for growing lion’s mane successfully.

Try Your Next Flush of Mushrooms

We guarantee the first harvest, but you may choose to attempt a second, third, or fourth fruiting off your log! Harvests usually diminish in size with each consecutive fruiting. After you pick up mushrooms:

  • remove any left mushroom tissue from the “+” area,

  • Soak the log in water for overnight, then wrap the log in the humidity tent and place it in a dark place for one week.

  •  Re-start the process of spraying your log with water daily as you did before. Enjoy another growing flush!

*CAUTIONS AND CONSIDERATIONS:

IF YOU PLAN ON CONSUMING YOUR HOME-GROWN MUSHROOMS, MAKE SURE TO COOK THEM THOROUGHLY. IF IT IS YOUR FIRST TIME EATING THIS SPECIES, IT IS BEST TO START WITH A SMALL AMOUNT TO SEE HOW YOUR BODY RESPONDS!

MUSHROOMS PRODUCE SPORES AS THEY DEVELOP. THIS IS A NATURAL MEANS OF REPRODUCTION FOR THE FUNGUS. THEY USUALLY APPEAR AS A DUSTY SURFACE ON YOUR GROW KIT BENEATH THE MUSHROOM. PEOPLE WITH ALLERGIES OR COMPROMISED IMMUNE SYSTEMS MAY WANT TO CONSIDER PUTTING FRUITING MUSHROOM KITS OUTDOORS OR IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA AS AIRBORNE SPORES SOMETIMES CAUSE RESPIRATORY IRRITATION. SPORES MAY ALSO CAUSE IRRITATION FOR SOME NON-ALLERGIC OR IMMUNE COMPROMISED MUSHROOM GROWERS, THOUGH THIS IS RARE. HARVESTING MUSHROOMS WHILE STILL IN THEIR YOUNGER GROWTH STAGES WILL REDUCE THE OVERALL SPORE LOAD.

MUSHROOM FARM

We started just for fun! The more we learn about mushrooms, the more we like to grow mushrooms . Fungi are the most widely spread organism on our planet. As a subdivision hosting--mushrooms  are not only very critical for our environment, but also play very important roles on human health.
